It wouldn't be a real Vets tour without moments of crisis. On the way out, Dave lost his ticket somewhere in Chicago airport which led to a mad panic to get a new ticket issued in time to make the connection. Then, on the return yesterday, we realised his passport had gone missing and I had to make frantic phone calls to all and sundry to attempt to resolve the situation. I finally got hold of somebody at the British Consulate in Orlando and we then started off on a mad dash to downtown Orlando to pick up an emergency passport before our plane departed.
Fortunately, our agent was there with his car and he volunteered to drive Dave to the Consulate so that the rest of us could carry on in the bus to the airport. Archie, who was staying in the States - heading for a family holiday in L.A. - heroically volunteered to go with Dave. In the end, it all went well and everyone - and their luggage - safely made it to their various destinations in time.
We had several hours to kill at Chicago and had a snack and a few beers. Dan then announced that there was a 3rd verse to his ode to Dick - this time, he decided not to sing it, but just to say it in rhyme:
