Q9

From http://bsvgolf.blogspot.com/

In the absence of Rob's report and scores, here's my bit from last night:

On the instruction of Rob, I moved up one place to join Rob's group with Gary and Dan, as Dick didn't appear to be quite ready. Major mistake on 2 fronts - firstly, Gary and I were paired up after the drives (no - it was Gary who was the shortest, not me!) and this meant giving tons of strokes to our opponents, so we ended up getting a right whupping from Messrs Pollard and Corbett - 5 & 4 I think it was. Secondly, I got blamed for Dick having a bad night when we got back to the clubhouse - the late change in pairing had apparently upset him and he ended up with his worst score in his last 11 Quaichs and quite probably his first DoD in almost 5 years!

Anyway, here's the gruesome twosome looking suitably smug after their win over Gary and I:

We did have some showers early on which necessitated putting the brollies up for a while, but it seemed that nobody had told Dick when the rain stopped - he still had his up on the 17th when the sun was shining!:

Gary and Rob both went left with their drives at the 18th. This was them just after playing their shots in towards the green, peering towards the distant horizon:

Most of us got off before the Riverston Cup qualifiers, who started at 5pm. Incidentally, it must be the Squash Vets worst performance in years for us not even to have one automatic qualifier in the Riverston - Hugh made it, but only as 99th (approximately) reserve. Anyway, we thought we wouldn't see the post 6pm starters, but, as we supped our second pints of Adnam's Bitter, we spotted some well kent figures playing the Doo'cot. Ian McRae's reputation for being long and wayward was cemented earlier on when he was spotted playing his second at the 4th hole from the wrong side of the stone wall to the right of the 11th fairway. It was no surprise then to see him 40 yards past the pin at the Doo'cot:

Ian played a nice approach shot and, not to be outdone, so did John Meaden - although, for some strange reason, he's out of shot in this photo:

The troops were getting restless in the clubhouse and not everyone was prepared to wait for the last group to come in to see who the winner was, so we decided to make a virtual presentation to Ian Sharp, leader in the clubhouse:

It wasn't too much longer, however, until we were able to ratify Ian's win and he was then formally presented with a real ball:

Updated leader board to follow when I receive Rob's report.
