IC XVI - day 4

Kaya Eagles was a late replacement course for the originally booked Lykkia Links, and it looked like a business that had gone bust and somebody else was now starting to pick up the pieces. The layout was OK and the fairways and greens were well mowed but the grass had completely gone to seed and it looked like they are going to have to re-lay their greens.

Allied to this, the clubhouse, which looked smart enough from the outside, was also lacking a little maintenance, and we soon discovered that the range and buggy man was apparently on the take, judging by the way he took our range tokens off us after we had bought them. There were no buggies so we had to walk again in the heat of the day. Lack of water was also an issue - the buggy scam man even tried to charge us €1 each per bottle, but we soon saw this one off.

The 3rd group managed to get buggies - cash only, of course - when somebody came off the course, and the first group got buggies at the turn, but the rest of us had to walk the whole way, all of which was a little too much for Archie, who was the latest in our group to suffer from gastric problems. Keith, Kenneth and I had been struggling since the weekend in Istanbul and a couple of days ago Jas reported similar problems. Now it was Archie's turn - and he had to literally run off the course at the turn. Eventually he got a taxi back to our resort.

Scores were pretty good on the front nine, but virtually all the walkers wilted somewhat on the back nine. Again it came down to countback and it was Malcolm's turn this time, just pipping Ken P. His 2nd consecutive win, plus just losing a 3rd on countback, puts him in a very strong position to win the Iberian Cup now. Here's Peter congratulating Malcolm on his win yesterday:
