As has been documented by e-mail, the river cruise up the Bosphorus never happened, but on Monday we tackled the Grand Bazaar and Topkapi Palace, followed by another lovely lunch at Hamdi restaurant before heading back to our hotel to await our transport to take us to the airport to meet up with the others.
It was all fairly uneventful until we landed in Antalya, when all hell seemed to break loose. There were 3 buses waiting to take us to the terminal building and the staff there just told us to get on any one. This meant, however, that some of us were taken to the Domestic arrivals hall and some were taken to International. We weren't aware of this at the time - there were no signs indicating where we were - and those of us at what turned out to the the International baggage claim, were somewhat downhearted when our bags didn't arrive.
What had happened, however, was that the advance party of 5, who were travelling domestic, had their bags taken to the correct Domestic baggage reclaim - but we were virtually all over 400 yards away in International. We were eventually alerted to this by Nigel so we then headed that way to pick up our bags. I then left the terminal building to look for our agent and the transport to take us to our hotel. Of course, I then realised that they were down at International so I had to hotfoot it back down there - with my bag in tow, as I wasn't allowed to go back in to the arrivals hall. Hot and sweaty, I eventually got there and we got on our bus and drove down to Domestic to meet the others waiting there.
The explanation for this was that, although it was a Domestic flight from Istanbul to Antalya, those that had travelled through from Edinburgh hadn't had to clear their bags through Customs at Istanbul, so had to do so at Antalya. The biggest problem was lack of information and assistance.
Whew! Got all that now?
Anyway we were met and greeted by a couple of lovely hotel personnel, who welcomed us to Gloria Serenity and did all the admin etc. We were upgraded to individual villas, which each have 2 bedrooms, upstairs and downstairs, plus patios, indoor and outdoor hot tubs and everything you could wish for. We are living like Kings.
Anyway, day one's golf is now over. The prize-giving will be at dinner tonight, but it looks like Nigel is the man, with 32 points, beating Les on countback. It was hot and sweaty at Gloria Old course, with distant thunder rumbling away - and we couldn't get buggies, so we were pretty dehydrated at the end of the round.
There have been quite a few Wee Cup contenders. Les is going for the quantity prize - he had a few incidents in Istanbul, but also left his passport behind when he went to bed last night. I was alerted to this by the receptionist who told me Mr. Gray had left it behind. I asked her which Mr. Gray - we had three of them? She replied "the father Leslie Gray" and showed me his photo!
Nigel had a bit of a whoopsy this morning when he asked my why I wasn't wearing any Scotland colours on the first day of the Scotland v R.o.W. match? This is how I was dressed at the time:
Apart from the pretty obvious navy blue top, with a tartan collar insert, I'm also wearing a Cricket Scotland cap, which has a St. Andrews flag ball marker on the peak! What more could I do?
