The course was looking good and we set off in four 3-balls, but, unfortunately, Archie's dodgy back let him down again and he had to go off before the turn. This didn't seem to faze his two playing partners at all as they went on to score the best two rounds of the day.
We had, as usual, pre-ordered our meals and the initial intention was to hold the prize-giving after we'd eaten, but there was a bit of a delay in the kitchen so we changed plans and did it before the meal. Linda had, as usual, bought a box of balls as prizes and made the presentations - first of all to Les, who got the Nearest the Pin prize at the 4th:
As I was assisting Linda with the presentation, in charge of my camera was Keith, but he obviously couldn't cope with the quirkiness of my old Sony, which is beginning to fall apart, and the attempts at photographs of the other NP winner (Harry) and the LD winner (Ken) failed miserably. Keith did, however, manage to get this one of the individual winner on the day right:
The team prize was initially awarded to Harry, Archie & Ken with a best two score of 87 points:
It was a few minutes later when the penny dropped with Malcolm querying how they managed to amass as many as 87 points, especially given that Archie couldn't play the back nine. A quick check of Ken's additions on the card revealed he had mis-added their inward nine by a massive 10 points, so they really only had 77 points, which was the same total as Keith, Malcolm and I. Both of our teams had identical inward halves so it went to a countback of the last 6 holes and, thankfully, matters were righted and the prize balls that had been awarded were retrieved and handed to the rightful winners:
Prize-giving over, Syd disappeared - no idea what happened to the meal he had pre-ordered - but the rest of us then sat down to dinner and mused over the events of the afternoon - what might have been etc. Scores on the day were:
Page, Ken | 39 |
Salter, Harry | 37 |
Gray, Keith | 34 |
Stewart, Ian | 32 |
Gray, Les | 32 |
Grigor, Malcolm | 30 |
