Terry Edmonds' Memorial 2013

The link to this blog is http://bsvgolf.blogspot.com/

It was a lovely warm 23 C for the 12th time we had gathered to play for the trophy donated by Linda after poor Terry passed late in 2001. The very first event in 2002 was rained off, as was the 2009 event, so this year was the 10th time we had actually played.

Good turnout too - 15 - soon to become 14, after Archie suffered a recurrence of his neck injury and had to leave the course after just a couple of holes.

Dick had some problems with his shorts at the 1st tee and he asked Linda to help him sort it out:

Suggestions please as to what the shadow might represent?
The course was looking smart and the fairways were the usual lush Aboyne carpets - very nice to walk on. The greens, however, had been hollow-tined a week ago and whilst the last week's growth had filled in the tining holes OK, the greens hadn't been cut and were unbelievably slow - nobody could get the ball up to the hole - even on downhill putts. My playing partner, Ian Dring, started keeping score and he calculated that both he and I "lost" 16-2 when it came to holes with putts short of the pin against those we actually managed to get past the pin.

Anyway, it was a lovely day out. We had a beer on the balcony after golf and then did the prizegiving. Dick was first up, winning the Nearest the Pin prize at the 4th hole, and Linda presented the prize ball, which seemed to amuse the onlookers:

Dan was next NP winner at the 14th and he decided to have a good old snog:

Dan eventually put Linda down and posed more conventionally:

Les got the longest drive at the 16th:

In the individual stableford event, Syd took 3rd place with 35 points:

It was a very close thing for first place - both Harry and I scored 36 points, so it went to countback. We both had poorer inward halves of 15 points, so it went down to the last 6 holes, which were also tied with 10 points each, so finally it went to the last 3 holes and Harry came out on top here to take the trophy for the first time. First of all, however, I had to get my award for 2nd place:

Then Harry and Linda posed with the trophy:

The team event was intended to be all 3 scores, but with Archie having to depart, it was cut to the top 2 scores from each team, and with Harry and Syd finishing first and third individually, it was pretty obvious which team would win, with Dan being the grateful hanger-on, riding shotgun with his two team-mates:

Finally a team photo on the balcony:

Another great day out in a season rapidly drawing to an end.
