Monifeith was magnificent - especially the greens, which were by far the best we've played on this season - including our overseas trips. To have such high quality greens at this time of year is amazing. They were incredibly fast - especially downwind. Syd was the first to find the pace, with 2 early birdies, and he and Peter quickly established a healthy 3 hole lead over Dan and I.
The back nine was mostly in to the wind and Dan and I came back the stronger team, winning 5 holes without reply to take the overall match 2 and 1.
The individual stableford scoring was very close, with Dan the winner on 27 points, with me next one point behind, followed by Peter on 25 and Syd, who was struggling a bit with a sore back, on 24.
We had brunch and supper in the Grange clubhouse, the latter washed down by Lia Fail.
This was the team line-up on the first tee:
Great day out, and still good value at £35 (£10 more than last year). We'll definitely be back next year.
That's the 2014 golf season officially over now. The first of the 2015 events is the Winter Grand Prix, which starts next Sunday (2nd November), running through to the end of March. All welcome.
Some stats and accounting to finish off the season. First up is a round-up of the winners of the season's various events. We already know that Malcolm clearly won the Order of Merit, which awards points to those finishing in the first 3 places in each event (plus those who won a weekly Quaich), but the following table shows only the winners of events, weighted by the numbers who took part in each outing:
No. | Winner | Nos. | Wins |
1 | Ian Dring | 73 | 5 |
2 | Malcolm Grigor | 63 | 5 |
3 | Ian Stewart | 55 | 5 |
4 | John Meaden | 54 | 4 |
5 | Dick Taylor | 31 | 3 |
6 | Chris Dickinson | 31 | 3 |
7 | Harry Salter | 23 | 2 |
8 | Rob Pollard | 21 | 2 |
9 | Syd Freeman | 14 | 1 |
10 | Jack Simpson | 14 | 1 |
11 | Gary Grant | 13 | 1 |
12 | Steve Fulford | 12 | 1 |
13 | Keith Gray | 10 | 1 |
14 | Peter Street | 7 | 1 |
13 | Dan Corbett | 4 | 1 |
Total | 425 | 36 |
Ian's 4 weekly wins in the Quaich, plus the overall Quaich win, saw him pip Malcolm and I, who also had 5 wins each.
I also have to account for the BSV balls used as prizes each year. At the start of each year, we buy a gross of logo'd balls and they are used for the following events:

There are one or two above who won balls at the most recent events but weren't around to receive them, but I'll hand these out if you let me know next time I see you.
As ever, you have to be in it to win it, and those at the top of the table above are also those who entered most events - and, as a result, made the greatest financial contributions to the prize balls.
That about wraps it up, I think.
