We had hoped for a good turnout for the final round, but the slightly earlier start was a problem for Ken Black, and Hugh Riches was a late cancellation. Rob Pollard and Jas Bhagrath were playing in the Seniors/Ladies Texas Scramble, so it was just nine who turned up on the first tee - soon to turn in to eight as Ian Dring had to pull out injured after par-ing the first hole.
Scores generally were modest - with one exception - the Maestro was in fine form, shooting a gross 69 for 41 points:
Freeman, Syd | 41 |
Stewart, Ian | 32 |
Simpson, Jack | 32 |
Taylor, Dick | 31 |
Sharp, Ian | 31 |
Meaden, John | 31 |
Dickinson, Chris | 30 |
Gray, Les | 27 |
Dring, Ian | 2 |
Only 3 of us had played in all 4 QQ's - Les, Chris and I - but, unlike the main Quaich, the dropping scores don't have such a big impact, as witnessed by the final table:
Freeman, Syd | 111 |
Dickinson, Chris | 107 |
Taylor, Dick | 105 |
Sharp, Ian | 102 |
Gray, Les | 101 |
Stewart, Ian | 101 |
Dring, Ian | 73 |
Bhagrath, Jas | 72 |
Meaden, John | 63 |
Simpson, Jack | 62 |
Riches, Hugh | 61 |
Grigor, Malcolm | 60 |
Pollard, Rob | 59 |
Page, Ken | 42 |
Black, Ken | 35 |
Corbett, Daniel | 23 |
It was a much more subdued occasion than the slightly riotous main Quaich presentation, but Syd was delighted to receive another BSV 2016 ball:
Syd collected half of the £1 entry fees for this week (Jack owes him £1) and the balance accumulated over the 4 weeks amounted to £20, which was intended to be handed over to the overall winner, who would then buy the drinks, but, with only a paltry 6 of us left in the clubhouse by this time, most of whom were driving, it wasn't worthwhile, so Syd generously donated the £20 to group funds to carry forward to next year.
