Such a beautiful evening and all the stars were down early to enjoy the sunshine and do a little practice chipping and putting:
Others decided just to chill:
Some people are a little camera shy, but obviously not Mr. Dring - so far, he's appeared in 2 of the photos, taken in different places - does he follow me around waiting for the moment? Harry was back for his first game in 6 weeks. I thought I would photograph one of his mighty tee shots at the first hole, but, for some reason, a little voice inside of me said - "no, switch to video". So we now have, recorded for posterity, quite the worst tee shot Harry's ever hit - in fact, probably the worst ever, even surpassing Rob's attempt to annihilate our entire Junior section with one blow a few weeks ago:
The full horror of the short video clip can only be viewed from the blog itself, but, in case anyone was in any doubt about how poor the shot was, here's Harry playing his 2nd:
Yes, that is the slope of the 1st tee - barely in front of the Ladies'. It was a tricky shot, but he made a pretty good fist of it.
By all accounts, despite the best conditions we've played in this season, there seemed to be a lot of erratic play last night - for instance, Ian McRae playing his approach shot to the 2nd hole. He was almost down at the foot of the hill, near the burn on the 3rd:
Another even wilder one was Hugh's tee shot at the 4th. He found an incredible angle - presumably a huge shank - with his ball ending up behind the 6th tee. None of us thought it was possible - and lesser mortals would have given up the ghost and not subjected themselves to ridicule and embarrassment from their colleagues, but Hugh's made of sterner stuff and off he strode over the 5th to be met by a galaxy of photographers. Rob's got the angle from the 6th tee, but this is mine from the fifth fairway:
The other theme of the evening was out of control Powacaddies. With Archie (Archie, the battery boy) AWOL, Dick thought he would take over. The automatic 10/20/30 yard features on the newer Powacaddies often bring embarrassment, e.g. at the 5th, when Dick set it off towards the 6th tee - whoops:
We let a match play through at the 12th so we had to wait to tee off at the 13th - here's Dick and Ian (again!) looking very relaxed:
Soon Dick got to tee off (view video from blog):
Dick had another go with the auto feature on his Powacaddy at the 14th/15th. This time, his crashed into and "mounted" mine:
The more observant will have noticed that I don't feature in any of the photos so far. Instead, here's a snap of my shoes, covered in pollen - hay fever here we come:
Updated stats to follow after Mr. Pollard's report.
