Q5

In the absence of the missing Rob (where was he?), you've got me reporting again on last night's Quaich, which was played in fine conditions, despite a shower as the early birds teed off. The evening just got better and better and ended up in glorious sunshine, albeit we would have preferred a few more degrees of heat.

It was a medal so the group was scattered a little, but 12 scores were handed in and £60 was collected by the winner, including Chris' £5, which he stumped up happily, despite being last in having played (and supped) with 2 civilians.

Letters to the Committee are furiously being typed by certain club members (not our group) complaining about our first group out, which transpired to be a fourball, as Dick, Keith and Dan were joined by Jas, who was scheduled to play much earlier but ended up as Billy No-Mates and had to wait to get some playing partners. Our resident Pro OK'd playing in a fourball even although it was a medal - so long as they kept up with the pace of play - which they did.

Surprise winner - his first Quaich win for a year, coming after some poor early season form, was Dick:

His 39 points equalled the season's best score to date and was one point more than Jas and 2 more than Dan. You would have thought that the 4th member of the leading group would manage to keep up this hot pace, but Keith was the early DoD "leader" in the clubhouse with just 26 points.

The pressure was soon off Keith, with Ken B and John M both returning 25 pointers, later to be joined by Mr. Sharp. However, whereas Ken and John freely exchanged back nine, last 6 etc scores to work out the countback for DoD, Ian was a little more coy about his inward nine score - in fact, he wouldn't tell us, so, by default, we have to nominate Ian as our DoD - his first such "honour" for 7 years!
