The Challenge XIII

The weather was kind to us yet again as we played the Scotland v R.o.W. Challenge match for the 13th time and we had a virtually full house of 27 golfers, including the return of Dave Williamson after an 8 year absence and the debut of Gerry Mullins, plus another 8 for lunch afterwards,

Cutting quickly to the chase, the Rest of the World team easily retained the trophy, completing the first ever whitewash, winning all 7 matches by a total of 20 holes. This reduced Scotland's overall cumulative superiority back down to 8.5 matches to 4.5 matches.

A total of 53 players have now taken part in this end of season contest, with Jack and I being the only ever-presents. In terms of points won for their respective teams, the top 10 scorers are:

Stewart, Ian 8.5
Freeman, Syd 8
Simpson, Jack 8
Bhagrath, Jas 7.5
Meaden, John 7
Corbett, Daniel 6
Sharp, Ian 5.5
Cook, Archie 5
Pollard, Rob 5
Salter, Harry 5

The only person with a 100% record in the Challenge was absent this year - Ken Page has played 4 times and won them all.

The morning started as usual with bacon butties and team bonding before we all headed on to the course, with the two Ladies teams starting at the 17th hole to try to get everyone back to the clubhouse in reasonable time.

The group photos were taken at different times in differing places and lined up as follows:

Ian Sharp, Ian Dring, Raymond Orr & Syd Freeman

Rob Pollard, Les Gray, Ian Stewart & Harry Salter

Hugh Riches, Dick Taylor, Archie Cook & John Meaden

Peter Street, Nigel Meany, Dan Corbett & John McWhinnie

Dave Williamson, Jas Bhagrath, Gerry Mullins & Jack Simpson

Joan McWhinnie, Jackie Riches & Julie Dring

Eileen Cook, Alison Sharp, Linda Bhagrath & Angela Gray
Before the presentations were made, we all sang Happy Birthday to Dick - 71 today:

Rob Pollard presented the gauntlet trophy to RoW captain Ian Dring:

Finally, it was time for the wiining team photo - minus Syd Freeman, Hugh Riches, Peter Street and Joan McWhinnie, who had all left by then:

Another grand day out.
