Iberian Cup XVIII 2016

It was a smaller that normal crowd who travelled down to Tenerife on Saturday. Five of us caught the plane from Edinburgh and we met up with John D, who had flown in from Gatwick, at TFS.

It was a fairly short journey up to Costa Adeje to check in to our hotel - the Iberostar Bouganville Playa, just a stone's throw away from Jardin Tropical. We arrived mid-afternoon - in good time to replenish/top up the alcohol levels. We had beers at our hotel, then crossed the road to The Pheasant Plucker, where we were delighted to find that their Happy Hour, which went through to 7 pm, offered large beers - Dorada -  at just €1.20. It would have been rude to have just one of course.

We took the easy option and had dinner next door at Mario's - they had prepared our table fittingly:

Several bottles of wine were consumed and then we returned to our hotel to watch a rather wooden Beatles tribute act in front of a large crowd of residents.

It was a very early start on Sunday morning for the short trip to Las Americas and we had plenty of time for coffees and range balls before our 8:28 am tee time. The course was - as ever - absolutely packed and with us just being 6 in number, we had to split in to a four and a two, with two "civilians" as Rob would call them, joining Dick and Jas.

JD was his typical awesome self - a terrific show of driving in particular, forcing a comment from Malcolm that he looked more like a 4 handicapper, rather than the 13 he now is. Yes, that's right, he's gone up a stroke since we last played with him - how we don't know. Here he is with his prize ball:

Jas and Dick got the NP's and Malcolm the LD. I decided to cancel today's team competition as we didn't play as two equal groups of three, but, in day 1 of our week long match between the Freewheelers and the Rest - aka Scotland v R.o.W. - the Rest's aggregate score of 80 easily beat the FW's 69 - helped by a wretched DoD from yours truly:

Davies, John 32
Bhagrath, Jas 28
Taylor, Dick 27
Grigor, Malcolm 23
Miller, Bill 20
Stewart, Ian 19

Today's Sweep was to guess the number of 3 or more pointers. There were just 12 amongst us so Malcolm's low guess of 18 easily won the money, with the rest of us hopelessly optimistic. Just time for a team photo at our favourite table at Las Americas:
