BoG LXIV

BoG LXIV

Jack's match report and my photos:

"Gents,
It was a reasonable autumn day as we set out on Sunday to participate in Grantown Golf Club's McCulloch Cup. There were 117 entries, 13 of them from Banchory and Aboyne.
On arrival, the customary coffee and bacon rolls were enjoyed before our later than usual start time of 1210 hrs. The wind was certainly a factor for some and keeping the ball out of the heather was quite difficult at times.
At the end of the day, the scores were quite modest off the white tees with the highest points total going to Gordon and Malcolm. Each scored 35 points with Gordon having the better back 9.
Leaving the club we headed to the Garth Hotel through the remnants of Motormania packing up on the Main Street. The usual after golf banter followed over a few beers.
Dinner had been rescheduled to 2000 hrs due to our late tee off times. Before dinner the assembly gathered at the bar and did some "damage" to the hotel's gin stock.
At dinner we were joined by a fourteenth individual in the form of a large soft toy. This was to take care of the dining room staff superstition of serving a table of 13.
After dinner the usual suspects adjourned to the bar and others turned in reasonably early to get some rest in preparation of the morning's challenge that is the Boat of Garten Having enjoyed an early breakfast we ventured out to some slight rain. The sky to the west looked reasonably better than we had in Grantown.
First tee time at the Boat was 0920 hrs. We went out in 3s in reverse points order from the previous day with the the top scorers going out last in a group of 4.
During the round we encountered some slight rain shower but in general we dodged the bullet as far as the forecast went.
Harry had the highest points total for the day scoring a credible 34 points.

Over the 2 days the following individuals picked up the prizes:
Overall winner was Harry with a combined points total of 64.
Overall second was Les on 63 points.
Overall third was Malcolm also on 63 points (count back rules applied) Best scratch score went to Syd with 48.
Sunday team prize went to Gordon, Dick and Les with 79 points.
Monday team prize went to Ian S, Ian D and Jas with 77 points.
Sunday nearest pin went to Dick (8th) and Rob (16th).
Monday nearest pin went to Harry (3rd) and Ian S (9th).
Sunday longest drive (12th) went to Ian D.
Monday longest drive (18th) went to Ian D.

Thanks for your support guys and trust we are all looking forward to next May.
Regards
Jack"

(I would add that Gordon was the Sunday winner and I was the Monday winner - on "countback")

Jack's relief at handing over the trophy - and the admin duties - is all too apparent

We don't know why Les thrust the dog in Rob's face - suggestions on a postcard please

Terrible selfie - need longer arms

Things were getting pretty silly by now - what was the purpose of Syd taking the photo holding the dog?

Rob's still feeling a bit dog-eared
