Terry Edmonds' Memorial XVII & B.o.G. LXVI

Busy weekend - Terry Edmonds' Memorial at Aboyne on Friday followed by the Boat of Garten outing on Sunday/Monday.

Seven Banchory Squash Vets were joined by Terry's son Paul, who came up from Cardiff (with his family) to take part in the event again after an absence of a few years. It was a fine afternoon and appropriately, Paul won the trophy - for the second time - with 34 points. Here's some of the photos:

Over the meal I made a jocular suggestion that the event should be held in Paul's home territory of Cardiff next year, but there were quite a few who quickly piped up that perhaps this might not be such a bad idea after all. The Lodges at Celtic Manor could provide suitable accommodation. Further discussion will no doubt follow.

Our traditional Boat of Garten programme had to be reversed this time, due to competitions on both courses. Sunday was very warm but also very breezy. Boat of Garten was very dry and the fairways and greens were baked hard - it seemed that, unlike further east, they hadn't recovered yet from the drought conditions of mid-summer.

The team line-up at the start:

Harry shot the best score of the day - 33 points, one more than both Les and Dick and those 3, joined by John M, formed the elite group going out last at Grantown-on-Spey on Monday.

Gordon, the defending champion and thus organiser for this event, had to rush away after his round at Grantown and so the onus for completing the prizegiving was passed back to me - a strictly one-of occasion and definitely not the start of a Sinatra-style comeback. Gordon left with a bang, however, with a super score of 42 points, which hauled him up to 2nd place overall. Harry held his nerve, however, with a steady 38 points to win the event overall for the 2nd time:

There is now a noticeable trend towards (relatively) younger winners - in the last 7 events 5 of the winners were still in their 50's - Ian D, Steve, Harry (2) and Gordon - with only Jack and I bucking the recent trend. Harry now enters the Top 10 of all-time winners:
