Tayside Autumn Outing

What a glorious day we had for the 8th Tayside Autumn Outing, held for the first time at Drumoig - and what a treat the course was. All 9 of us agreed it had taken us a little by surprise at how good it was - and very playable too, despite being a bit lengthier than usual. Kudos to Raymond, who has been an advocate of the course for a few years.

At 6,403 yards off the green tees it's a whopping 836 yards longer than the equivalent yellow tees at Banchory - and their yellow tees are a further 492 yards behind the greens. Not to mention the changes in elevation and the distances between greens and tees - it's a fair walk.

Here's the socially distanced team on the first tee:

A couple of other views from out on the course:

The first team out - me, Nigel and Raymond - started like a train. Nigel chipped in for a birdie at the first and I raced through the first 8 holes, amassing 20 points - but then the wheels rather fell off for both of us. Raymond took up the reins on the back nine, but it wasn't quite enough and we finished with the lowest team score (just) of 100 points, with team 2 (Harry, Keith and John) pipping us by one. Team 3, however - Jas, Gordon and Ian D - totalled 103 to win the team prizes.

NP's were won by Ian D and Keith, and Harry took the LD.

It was close in the individual event with Ian D and Raymond both shooting 37 points, but Raymond's 21 point back nine took first prize.

Having made the excellent suggestion of going to Drumoig this year, Raymond announced that next year's event would be at another new venue - King James VI on Moncreiffe Island, Perth.
