It was a relatively small, but select, group of 7 of us who made the annual pilgrimage to Blairgowrie yesterday. In Peter's absence, Archie was organising this year.
All bar one - Dick couldn't be persuaded - donned shorts. We played the lovely Wee Course in the morning and scores were pretty respectable, with Malcolm best of the bunch with 21 points, followed by Dan, Keith and I all on 19 points.
We had teed off a bit earlier than we were supposed to, so we had a longish lunch break - no hardship, sitting in the sunshine, with pints of Inkie Pinkie and Ossian to call on for refreshment:
We got off a bit earlier than our scheduled 2 pm tee time on the classic Rosemount course and the big question was, could Malcolm break the curse of the Wee Course winner? Seldom has anyone won both the pre-amble and the main event - not since Dan's hey-day of 2008, in fact.
Les was back in Blighty and had recovered from the tummy bug that had forced him to miss Wednesday's Quaich. He was in fine fettle and was creaming the ball, demonstrating the value of warm(er) weather training. Here's a classic pose, playing his approach to the first hole:
Looking back from the first fairway also affords fine views of the lovely clubhouse and the terrace where we'd had lunch and drinks:
Les was the only one who mastered the front nine, but, slowly but surely, I reeled him back in on the inward half, and, in the end, I just pipped Les with 35 points after my back nine of 21 points. Here's the full scores from the day:

Super day out - many thanks to Archie for organising. Blairgowrie GC has a lovely feel to it - and great facilities. What was surprising, however, was how quiet the place was. Normally, it's packed at this time of year, but there seemed to be hardly anyone in the clubhouse, and there were gaps in tee times, and we were the only ones in the dining room after golf. All of which made it slightly odd that we had some difficulty in getting the date we wanted, and their reticence to be more flexible on when we went out was even stranger.
Note for next year - Blairgowrie offers cheaper twilight golf - £25 per round after 4 pm. We used to do this years ago at Gleneagles for the Midsummer Outing - perhaps we should try this at Blairgowrie next year? If we're spared, of course.
