Fraserburgh

The link to this blog is http://bsvgolf.blogspot.com/

It was our first visit to the 7th oldest Golf Club in the world for a couple of years, having missed the opportunity to use our free passes late last year. It's always been a fun day out and yesterday was no exception.

The forecast had shown that the far north-east tip of Scotland was likely to be the last place that the incoming weather front arrived at, so there was no fear of being rained off. In fact, it was pretty sunny for most of the round, but, of course, the usual Broch wind was blowing. It was probably a 3-4 club wind, but Rob got chatting to one of the greenkeepers on the way round, who made the usual "nice day" remarks, but then added the comment "you should come here when it's windy"!

The wind was invigorating and the links layout and the dunes provide a completely different experience from anything else we do. Nine of us played and we went with three teams of three. Here's the first group limbering up on the 1st tee:

I was playing with Syd and Rob in the 2nd group - and here they are on the first green:

Looking back from the elevated 3rd tee, here's Bill and Jas playing the 2nd hole (Archie out of shot):

Also from the 3rd tee, looking back over the magnificent dunes and the bay to the town:

Looking south towards St Combs, we spotted what looked like an abandoned boat:

No - not Elsie's - the sign below!

After golf, we all scurried back to the Redgarth at Oldmeldrum, one of our favourite watering holes, for some fine ale and a nice meal. We did the prize-giving first - Syd and Ken got the nearest the pins prizes and Rob won the longest drive. Individually, Jas' fine 34 point score in tricky conditions was far and away the best of the day, with Rob in 2nd place. The team prize was won by Syd, Rob and me.

Here's the team photo outside the Redgarth after dinner:

Good fun - and many thanks again to the rest of the party for treating me to dinner.
