Our travel travails and a fairly short sleep didn't seem to affect the first day's play at Santa Ponsa too much, but we only got to the course just in time - no time for range balls, nor putting and chipping practice - but it turned out to be a long hot day - five and a half hours our round took, and we came straight off the course and on to the team bus back to the hotel before anyone could shower or even grab a beer.
Santa Ponsa is relatively open and affords nice views of the surrounding mountains - and, believe me, we had plenty of time to view them.
A portent of troubles to come for Archie was obvious from the kinesio athletic blue strips he was sporting to help with his recent achilles tendon problems:
Scores were pretty good - 4 of us reached the respectability threshold of 30 + points, with Malcolm just pipping me on countback, both of us with 34 points. Here he is receiving his prize ball on the terrace bar back at our hotel, with the warm, inviting Med in the background awaiting us all:
After a dip and a shower, we congregated on the balcony of Jas' and Archie's apartment for G & T's, before walking to one of the local restaurants for dinner.
Day one had gone very well.
