As Rob already reported, it was a glorious day - the best this year, with temperatures still at 26C when we teed off just before 5pm. I thought the occasion merited a few photographs in the blog:
 |
Rob practising - rather bizarrely, in long socks - Robert Strang-Steel would be proud of him! |
 |
Simpson, Stewart & Gray head off the early evening crowd, as Ken Black, hands on hips in the distance, seems to be wondering why he isn't getting to play with them. |
 |
Jack's ball landed on the slope at the back of the green at the 8th and he decided to putt it - this was his way of seeing what the line was - and, no, he didn't make it. |
 |
At the same hole, Keith chips close for his four. |
 |
A distant, blurry shot of the first of the workers' groups on the 3rd green - Chris and Hugh wait for Ian to stop waving that magic wand of his. |
 |
Playing right behind them, Mr. Sharp is in the ditch at the 3rd - but Steve and John don't seem very interested. |
 |
We waited on the balcony for over an hour for the later groups to come in - this is the McRae, Dickinson & Riches 3-ball playing the Doo'cot as the sun slowly sets in the West. |
Perhaps it's time for some stats as well? We're 9 weeks in to the season now - just 14 left - so I guess you can handle some comments from the database:
- It appears that prior rumours of the demise of the Quaich are a little premature. Last night's attendance of 18 was the highest for 4 years and we've been in double figures for 6 of the 8 weeks we've managed to play so far.
- 21 players have taken part to date this season.
- Harry's DoD last night was his 2nd of the season and neatly equalled his 2 wins in only 5 games played. Hero or zero it seems - seldom Mr. Average.
- Jack has the highest attendance, having played 7 out of the 8 weeks, and naturally leads the scoring just now, with 223 points. Dick is handily placed just 9 points behind, having played one game less.
- Leading the average points scored is Ian McRae, with 36.3 from 4 games played.
- Last night, Jas and Hugh scored the first two 40-pointers of the season. At this time last year, we'd already had 8.
- Rob's 23 points on 2nd May remains the lowest score of the season to date.
- Syd's 36 points on 6th April is the lowest winning total this year.
- Conversely, Harry's 31 points on 28th March is the highest DoD total.
That enough stats for you? I know you've been missing them.
