It was our annual trip to the lovely Fife town of St. Andrews yesterday - to play the Eden course again. Twelve of us made the trip this year and we lined up on the 1st tee for the usual team photograph:
The forecast had been for sunshine and 22 C and Les, Rob and I dressed accordingly. It turned out to be a little cooler than we'd been led to believe, but it was pretty near ideal golfing conditions, with only a light breeze to contend with.
You get a nice flavour of St. Andrews when playing the Eden course, but it has a little more variety than some of its more famous companion courses - and, with green fees at just £40, it's certainly much more affordable. The course may not have as many, or as deep, bunkers as the Old Course, but, if you get in them, you're often faced with a backwards or sideways shot to get out - as many of our group discovered, including Les:
Les and I were out in the first group with Malcolm and Archie - all invalids together. We were followed by Ken (who I'd picked up at the airport and whisked him down to St. Andrews, directly from Abu Dhabi/Iraq), Syd, Dan & Dick, three of whom are pictured here at the 9th:

So, to the prizes. The first NP prize was apparently a tie between Les and Peter, but as I only had one ball marker to hand out and Peter's name was last on the card, he got it. The other NP, plus, of course, the LD, went to Harry.
Harry also took 3rd place in the individual stableford and there was a tie at the top between Syd and I, both on 37 points, with me just edging it with the better inward nine. Here's the full list:
Stewart, Ian | 37 |
Freeman, Syd | 37 |
Salter, Harry | 35 |
Page, Ken | 34 |
Pollard, Rob | 33 |
Miller, Bill | 32 |
Street, Peter | 31 |
Grigor, Malcolm | 30 |
Gray, Les | 30 |
Taylor, Dick | 26 |
Cook, Archie | 25 |
Corbett, Dan | 22 |
The team prize (best 3 scores at each hole) was won by Team C (Harry, Rob, Bill & Peter) with 113 points, with teams A & B trailing in 5 and 9 points respectively behind.
Another great day out - and one that's certain to be repeated next year.
